Half-day circular hike from Himalayan Orchard through deodar forest to an early 20th century Forest Rest House and back for lunch.
Cost: 1,000 INR per group if guided.
Half-day hike. From Himalayan Orchard turn right and head over to the red-roofed grading shed with a large deodar growing out of it. Scramble up from the road to get on the A1, which passes between two tin-roofed sheds (the water source). Keep going up for 30 minutes until you see a large water pipe and a blue-and-white cross on a tree. Turn right along the '00'. (If you go too far you get to the jungle cricket pitch - red circle). After ten minutes take the right fork towards the green roof ahead of you. This is the Forest Rest House (green circle). Go to the Rest House in the centre of the compound and turn right and down the slope. Below you is the old chokidar's hut in the forest. Turn left and down the steep slope. Follow the path until you get to the road. The Snake Mother temple is just ahead on the bend. Return to Himalayan Orchard back along the road.
